1. Getting Ready to Buy

The first thing you should do is review your finances. Check your credit rating and try not to make any major credit purchases. You can order your credit report online. Also, determine a comfortable monthly budget for your home purchase, including down payment and monthly payment.

The next thing to do to get ready to buy is to make a wish list. What are your priorities for your new home? Determine what neighborhood best matches your needs. Identify what features are most important to you in a home. Home prices vary based on location, neighborhood, square footage and age of home. Once you know how much you can afford, you can start a realistic home search.
